For Eastleigh BC, 2 weeks of fence renewal. Kevin leading.
Work venue starts about 100m South of the small carpark. See the venue notes please. Walk along the road with care, there is no footway here.
People bringing heavy equipment may park beyond the little carpark, in the corral and fire track on the right where the road bears left.
Ben Smith has written ” I’ve been to Hamble and extracted and replaced the strainers on the line running from the corral at the entrance to the fire track to the ephemeral pond. I’m also installed a new strainer in the middle of the line as the current run had c.120m between strainers. I’ve replaced the strainers in advance due to the Scheduled monument status of the common and it takes away any chance of you guys needing to dig. I’ve not strutted the strainers, I’ll leave this to you guys on the task, and I’ve just loosely reattached the wire to the new strainers to keep the site secure until you come to remove and replace the wire.
I’ve already cleared the vegetation from the line. I’ll provide several pairs of wire cutters so that several people can be involved in removing the sections of wire. I need this cut into short sections of around a metre and compressed so that I can efficiently get it in a skip. The new fence is to be stock and 2 lines of barb, with intermediates at 4m spacings. Barb at 3” above stock and then 2nd line of barb c.7” above the first. The posts are 6’, I want them 2’ in and 4’ out of the ground.
For the 2nd week we’ll be looking at doing as much as we can on the same line, but from the other side of the ephemeral pond towards the coast. I will again replace the strainers in advance, and I’ll be attending that task.”
