Mercury Marsh

Event Details

It’s 5 years since we last collected and burned reeds at Mercury Marsh. Our booking in 2020 was the first cancellation of Covid lockdown. This date chosen to coincide with daytime low tide but waterproof footware is always a good choice. Geoff to lead.

Picnic spot on the grass at the end of Kingfisher Close. Work area is directly East of here. Tom bringing break-time bonus.

We’ll need lots of pitch forks or garden forks to help collect the cut reeds. The tide will be out but the mud can be ankle deep; wear wellies.

Please reed the venue notes for parking instructions.

Monday afternoon. Cut reeds ahead.

Work area March 2024

Starting fires was not easy.

Reeds reluctant to burn in rows.

Much stacking and stoking done.

Cough cough!

Keeping the fire going as the tide rises.

King Canute knew when to give up.

We got back with our wellies dry, just.
