Oak tree planting

Event Details

This event finished on 14 December 2022

Work for Martin’s  HCS team. Two weeks planting 75 trees in the field bounded by Workman’s Lane and Cowes Lane. Also installing a protective cage around each tree. Ben and a ranger from Titchfield Haven will use diggers to do most of the groundwork. JohnR and Geoff will share task leadership over the large site.

Project is funded by charitable donations from Alpha Laboratories of Eastleigh and project managed by Martyn Shears. Staff from the company will attend to help and be involved.

Please assemble for a 09:30 briefing

Bring your hard hat !!!!! There will be more post driving. If you can, bring a shovel or spade, a simple PZ2 screwdriver and a small pair of wire cutters.

Martyn would like us to divide into teams who will finish preparing the holes that have been started. These guys will also drive in 2 support posts per hole.  He would also like another set of teams of tree planters who will place the tree, refill the hole around the root ball, add mulch and fix the protective cage and tree ties. There will be an Alpha Labs helper with each team.

The target for week 1 is to plant 40 trees. The first one is in the ground with photos below. the ground is mostly good going so regular work boots will suffice. There are obvious wet patches to avoid. Week 1 objective met. But no new photos.

Week 2 will have 35 more oak trees to plant. Objective met. More photos below
