Selborne fencing

Event Details

This event finished on 22 March 2023

Work for National Trust at Selborne. Scrub will have been cleared away from the intended fence line. We are to install/reuse standard stock fence with a barbed wire topping.

As usual, park behind the pub and transfer tools to NT vehicles then walk left down the main street for 444m to cross the Oakhanger stream where the work location will be seen on the right of the road. Entry gate at ///undulation.mirroring.squashes

Bring your hard hat unless you want to dodge post driving duties. JohnR will lead the task. Kevin bringing birthday cakes on March 22.

The site is quite steeply sloped which will complicate the process a little and may be a real problem if it is wet.

“There are silty deposits by the stream, two areas of which are to be avoided, you can feel the crust of vegetation moving like a quaker, however very obvious when looking, and will still support within reason. This part of the property is neutral/ acid grassland and lies on the upper greensand terrace which outcrops at the foot of the steep chalk scarps running down the spine and across the southern part of East Hampshire.” – NT.
